Wi-Fi @ the Library

YOUR COMPUTER, OUR WIRELESS NETWORK.

Need to send an e-mail, finish up a resume or homework assignment? Drop into the Huntley Area Public Library with your laptop and login to our wireless network and get the job done!

During library hours, the library allows patrons to connect their equipment to the Internet at no charge using a wireless network. In using the library’s wireless network, patrons agree to abide by library policies including public computer use guidelines and these wireless access guidelines.

Users must have their own equipment, a compatible wireless network card or device, headphones, and software. Bringing a fully charged battery is recommended due to limited outlets. Applications that require an excessive amount of bandwidth may not be supported.

EQUIPMENT FAMILIARITY
Patrons must be familiar with their equipment and be able to set up their equipment for wireless access. Library staff will make every effort to train patrons to use the library catalog and other library specific electronic or print resources as well as office equipment available to the public. However, library staff can only provide limited assistance with patron equipment due to insurance limitations and warranties. Library staff will not supply, install, or configure any hardware or software on patron equipment. Referral may be made to formal classes held at the library or other local agencies.

PATRONS USE THIS SERVICE AT THEIR OWN RISK
Virus, security, and privacy protection is the responsibility of the patron. The library is not responsible for insuring the privacy of information transferred over the network.

The library cannot guarantee network availability at any specific time, that the connection will have any specific quality, signal strength, or speed, and that patron equipment will be able to connect to the network. Signals may be lost at random.

The library assumes no responsibility for any software downloaded and/or installed, email opened, or sites accessed while patrons are on the network. Any damage to the patron’s equipment from viruses, plug-ins, or other Internet-born programs is the responsibility of the patron.

The library is not responsible for any alterations, interference, damage, theft, or loss of any kind to a patron’s equipment, configurations, software, data files, or personal property.

Patrons expressly agree that they knowingly assume this risk, and further agree to hold the Huntley Area Public Library District harmless from any claim or loss arising out of or related to use of the library’s wireless network.

Wireless access is filtered. Filters are set up according to patrons’ library card agreements and the public computer use guidelines. If necessary, time limits may be implemented according to the public computer use guidelines.
