Basic Search
Select a search option from the drop down menu.

  • Enter a term or terms. With words or phrase, use "and" to connect different fields such as author and title (i.e. grishman and client) or title and format (moonstruck and dvd).
  • The catalog will automatically search the Huntley Area Public Library's collection only. You also have the ability to search all other libraries in our consortium through the library drop down menu.
  • After hitting enter or clicking search, you will be brought to a single catalog record or a list of catalog records.

Click the details button for a specific record in a list to get the call number, shelf location, and status.

Power Search
From the basic search screen, click "power search" to combine search terms, limit your search by language or type of material, produce a browse list, or conduct a call number search.

Combining Search Fields
Combine search fields such as words or phrase, author, title, subject, series, or periodical title. Enter a single term or set of terms in the desired fields. When combining search fields, the power search will default to And, but you can also use Or (to include either or both terms), Not (to exclude a term), and XOR (to include only one of the terms).

  • Words or phrase field: enter words or phrases to search any field in a catalog record. You can even use this field to enter a format such as VHS, DVD, CD, or sound recording.
  • Author field: type an author's name. Usually the last name is enough but you can also search by first name and last name. The author field covers actors and singers as well.
  • Title field: search for words in the title and subtitle. Leave out a, an, the, not, and other common words.
  • Subject field: enter terms to search the subject index.
  • Series field: enter terms in a series title.
  • Periodical title field: enter a periodical or journal title.

After entering the search terms, click the "Search" button.
