How To Place Holds & Suggest Titles

Reserving Items
Did you know that you can reserve or hold items from your local library or a surrounding one? After searching the catalog and receiving a list of records, click the "Details" button to retrieve the call number, shelf location, and status. If the material is available, a location will be listed.

If the materials is not available, the location will have a status message such as the material has been checked out or awaiting pickup (by another patron).

Click here to open our catalog in a new window and follow the instructions.

Placing Holds on Checked Out Items

  • On the left-hand side of the details screen, click on the "Place Hold" option.
  • Enter your 14-digit library card barcode number and your password (the password is patron until you change it).
  • Click on the "Place Hold" button and the o.k. button to confirm the hold.
  • You will be notified by email or phone when the item is available. The first available copy in our consortium will be used to fill the hold.

Please note the Huntley Area Public Library does not offer holds on NEW children's or adult fiction video recordings (VHS and DVD). Only some libraries in our consortium fill holds on fiction video recordings. As a result if you place a hold, the waiting time for this type of material can be very long. The other libraries in our consortium may also restrict holds on other types of materials so not all hold requests will be be accepted.

Placing Holds on Available Items
If an item is available at the Huntley Area Public Library, please call the Reference Desk at 847-669-5386 ext. 21 to have the item put aside for you with the exception of non-holdable material such as NEW children's or adult fiction video recordings and hot books.

If you place holds through iBistro on available material, your request will not be received by the reference staff until the next weekday morning.

Suggesting Titles
If you would like to recommend a title for purchase, please email reference@huntleylibrary.org. Please include your name, phone number, and library card number.
