Opportunities to Support Your Local Public Library
There are many ways to participate in and support your local public library. Here are some ideas of ways your time or monetary support can help to build your library for many years to come.
Volunteer
Volunteering your time is a great way to support the Library. Volunteer hours add value to your library through helping with tasks designed to assist staff and maintain collections, and save tax dollars on additional staff needed to run the library. Regular volunteers commit weekly to various projects under the direction of library staff. To inquire about current volunteer opportunities at the library, contact Pamela in the Volunteer Office at (847) 669-5386 ext. 28.
Join the Huntley Area Public Library District Friends
The Friends is a charitable, not for profit organization made up of community members who promote, aid and support literature related and reading programs offered by the Library (501(c)3 status is pending). The membership is diverse and we rely on the expertise members bring to the group to help us explore new ways to support the library through programming and fund raising.
Funds are raised through our on-going Corner Books sale just inside the library's front door, book sales, Holiday Basket raffles, a golf outing and other events held throughout the year. To date, the Friends have raised over $120,000 for a library building expansion. Every One Needs a Friend; Please Join us: Individuals, $10; Families, $15; Lifetime, $100
Donations
Direct donations and gifts are always welcomed to supplement the Library's budget. Your donation is an investment in the community which may be used to enhance the Library's collections and services, and toward the building expansion fund. Financial donations can be made directly to the Huntley Area Public Library District. Donations are tax-deductible; consult your financial advisor.
Creating a Legacy
The Creating a Legacy Program was established in October 2009 as an opportunity for residents to leave a gift to the library. Contributions will help expand the building, or provide assistance where it is needed most, while allowing a donor to create their own legacy to honor their family or in memory of another. Recognition is given to donors who give $100 or more on the donor wall plaques located in the foyer of the library. Please see our Creating a Legacy Brochure for more information.
Memorials
Memorials may be established to honor a loved one. A dedicated liaison will work with your family representative to ensure that memorial funds are used in a way which meets your family's wishes, and benefits the library in your loved one's name.
Book Plates
Opportunities exist to purchase a book in your name or your company's name. Choose from one of the titles we will order, or make a suggestion to add to our collection. Your selection will include a book plate recognizing your donation. Individuals recognize special family or business events including: anniversaries, birthdays, memorials, recognition of an achievement (graduation, etc.), commemoration of an organization's milestone, or thanks for service or kindness. Please contact Rosie at (847) 669-5386 ext. 24 for more information.
Should you have questions or require additional information about any of the opportunities
listed above, you may call the contact person listed, or call Leigh Ann Porsch at (847) 669-5386 ext. 35.
