Huntley Area Public Library Releases Survey Data

On February 11, 2008 the Huntley Area Public Library Board received the results of the November survey, which asked district residents to share their opinions and feedback regarding the library. 2189 surveys were returned, which is a return rate of 14% (almost three times the usual rate of survey returns). Questions asked about frequency of use, satisfaction with library materials, communications and the website, what services are used, offsite programs, and possible additions to or reductions of services or materials.

Following is a summary of some of the findings. Additional information may be viewed at the Huntley Area Public Library Reference Desk.

  • 85% of the households responding have a library card and someone from that household visited the library within the past 12 months
  • 71% visit the library at least once a month and 90% borrow books
  • 87% have a positive view of the Huntley Area Public Library
  • 87% of those responding felt it was important to improve the library
  • People answering the survey felt the four most important things to improve are:
  • A larger selection of books
  • Additional seating space
  • A larger selection of DVD’s / Videos
  • A larger children’s room

The Board of Library Trustees has consistently listened to the public when planning the future of the library. They will review the community’s feedback from this most recent scientific survey, and continue to work towards meeting the goals of the community.

Referendum-Tired of Huntley Running its residents dry

I agree on the tax issue. Huntley is taxing and taxing and taxing more. I pay just as much taxes as a friend who lives in a 800,000 home one town away and mine is only worth 350,000. Huntley just has to deal with the fact that their residents are going broke. In the computer age and every home these days at least has one computer the www is way more efficient for information. The books at the library are way outdated so really of no use when doing real research. Furthermore---when did the library become a rec center? In the old days a library was a library you went there to borrow books and other materials. The library is not a gathering place for kids programs and recreational activities--MOVE IT TO THE REC CENTER WHERE IT BELONGS--OUR TAXES ALREADY INCREASED FOR THAT. MOVE THE PROGRAMS TO THE NEW REC CENTER---Huntley library needs to realize the potential of that facility and stop crying for money. I am not old, I have four children h.s. age to kindergarten and one still at home. -I am a 40 ish resident of Huntley who is way tired of the taxing.
Check your bookshelf Huntley--remember the BOSTON TEA PARTY? I KNOW I AM TIRED OF THE TAXING AND I WILL NOT VOTE FOR IT

What do security guards have

What do security guards have to do with the library?

I voted yes to the referendum that got the library off Algonquin Rd. from that tiny house that it used to be. Nobody seems to realize how lucky we are to even have the library at the size that it is.

I don't know how much more it will cost to expand, but it needs to be done. Nobody wants their taxes to go up with a recession going on so I hope it's not too much, that's all.

funny

Funny how your survey was returned by only 14% of the residents and 90% of those people borrowed books. That means 86% of the village DOESNT WANT INCREASED TAXES. Do more with less. You tried to stongarm us before with a referendum, then spent thousands another time for a ridiculous phone survey, and now are trying to strongarm us again. Did you notice your picture in the Huntley Journal regarding the seating shows that only 33% of the space was being used.
I have friends that use the library often and they say it is never crowded.
DO MORE WITH LESS!

Referendum

We pay enough taxes this was done already and was rejected

I beleive each home has at least 1 computer in it and our schools have computers for children to look up things they need also our schools have libraries in them also I feel that the libraries are a building for babysitting place were parents drop off kids to watch them or meeting place for kids to hang out It is a wast of money

We need to be more worried about our security in this town I have been reading every day about our banks and I feel that this is more important

what is our police doing about this they should be going to each business to get security guards in every business in this town the people that are doing these things know we have no security so they will keep coming here over and over again as they are doing and we just sit and watch and advertis this I moved here thinking it would be a safe little town but i dont feel it any more what can be done do we need a referendum for more security here we should be more worried about our childrens safty and people living in our town.

hardly a portion of the residents returned the survey

Less than 3000 returned surveys for a town of 15000 and you think that justifies a increased tax referendum? This smells of delusions of some type.
