This is the first book in the “Unfortunate Events” series. In the book, Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire lose their parents in a fire. They are then sent to live with Count Olaf, a distant relative. While living with him, they find out about an evil plan that he has.

I liked this book because you don’t know what is going to come next. The Baudelaire orphans go with a mean uncle, Count Olaf. He is really mean and only wants the orphans’ money. Their parents died in a fire, so Count Olaf makes the orphans cook and clean for him. Count Olaf traps the kids on some train tracks, but they are smart and move the train to the other tracks. So then Mr. Poe comes and Count Olaf leaves and the kids go to a new relative. But who?

I think this book is great. In the beginning, there was a fire, which causes the Baudelaire mansion to burn. So, the Baudelaire children become the Baudelaire orphans. Their parents’ banker, Mr. Poe, finds them a relative to live with. This terrible relative happens to be a horrible, evil man, named Count Olaf. He’s a terrible actor and has a VERY weird acting troupe. The scariest thing that the Baudelaire orphans think is the tattoo of an eye on his left ankle. My favorite funny part in the book is when Count Olaf meets the orphans for the first time and says, “HELLO, HELLO, HELLO!” I don’t want to give away too much information about the book, but if you like this review, I’m sure you’ll love The Bad Beginning.

The Baudelaire orphans are sent to an evil relative.
I disliked the book because it was stupid and unrealistic.
