“The Book Thief” by Markus Zusak follows Liesel, who is sent to live with foster parents Hans and Rosa Hubermann in the fictional town of Molching. Liesel discovers the power of words and books amidst the horrors of war. Her foster father, Hans, teaches her to read, igniting a passion that leads her to “borrow” books from the mayor’s wife’s library. The stolen books become her comfort.
