This book is written from the point of view of Holden Caulfield, a high school student living in NYC who has just been kicked out of Pencey (school). The story is a mental exploration, and you are sitting in Holden’s mind. Many things are “just depressing” to him. All he does is think and analyze and wander around New York until he is expected home. This book kept me interested even though there are no real surprises. It is very realistic.
