While we’re not sure if any actual birds will be attracted to these haunted houses that teens created at the library in October 2023, we did have a lot of fun creating them. Check out our creations below:
Our friends at Culver’s of Huntley and the Huntley Police Department joined us for a fun-filled evening at the latest Read and Eat event. We thank all the families who attended the evening. Roar! We read Eggasaurus by Jennifer Wagh about a child who received dinosaur eggs in the mail. Then we made our own dinosaur egg to take home, let dry, and break open later. Some kids sent us photos of their egg opening at home. What kind of dinosaur is your favorite?
Love slime? So do we! Children learned how to make their own spooky, gooey slime with kid-friendly ingredients. Check out the pictures if you dare!
We had a blast learning the choreography to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller!” Who knew zombies could be so flexible?! Participants are now certified to participate in future zombie flash mobs… Enjoy some photos from the event:

We also learned many amazing facts about how to help keep our environment safe for animals. At one point, the audience had to act like birds of prey. Enjoy the cool photos!
Here are some of the smiley winners of our grand prizes. Thank you again to our AMAZING HAPL Friends Foundation and business donors. Congratulations to all of the winners and thank you to everyone who participated in our Sounds Like Summer reading program!
There was a good registration for the return of our Craft Wars series, but only one teen was actually able to make it, so it was more of a Craft Duel! We didn’t share what we were creating until the end, and it was surprising to learn that we both incorporated tree/forest elements into our book nooks. What IS a book nook? It’s like a diorama that shows a scene of some kind (your choice, … Read more
Teens got serious about collage in this class – and were so focused you could hear a pin drop! Collage is a fun, mixed-media art form that can combine all kinds of different art techniques to produce an end product that is truly unique. Several participants were inspired enough to collect some extra supplies to take home, so they could continue working on their projects. Things got messy! See some of their artwork below:
