College Preparation

Colleges and Careers:

Research colleges and careers. Learn more about different professions, classes and courses of study offered by different schools, and more.

Scholarships:

Cut college costs by researching and applying for scholarships. Some places to research include: employers (student or parent), local community organizations, scholarships from the schools you are interested in attending, scholarships offered in a specific field of study, big corporation/brands scholarships (Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Starbucks, McDonalds, US Bank, etc.), scholarships local to the community of the school you want to attend.

The library has a number of books that can help you learn more about scholarships – how to find and apply for scholarships, how to write winning application essays, and information about specific scholarships and organizations that offer them. Find them in the library’s nonfiction collection (call#: 378.34).

These sites can also help you find and apply for scholarships.

Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC):

Reach out to an Illinois Student Assistance Commission representative with your questions about college planning and financial aid. ISACorps members are recent college grads who have experience navigating the challenges of researching your college/post-secondary options, the application process, and financial aid (FAFSA, grants, scholarships, etc.). Learn more about ISAC here. Find your representative here!
