The main character, Timothy, struggles with a difficult life. He has an absent father, and a mother who always has to work so they can pay for his at-risk brother. Timothy gets into trouble trying to find money for his brother’s medication, putting him on house arrest. When things finally seem to get better, Timothy has to make a sacrifice to save his brother, causing him to go to juvenile detention. This book is written as a diary, requested by his probation officer and psychologist. At the end something pretty unexpected happens. I really like the format of the book and how we get the main character’s thoughts and feelings in every situation. For middle and high school teens.
