“The Naturals” by Jennifer Lynn Barnes is a young adult thriller that has elements of crime-solving, psychology, and mystery. This story follows Cassie Hobbes, a seventeen-year-old girl who has an extraordinary ability to read people like a book. With this special ability, she is able to solve crimes. When Cassie is recruited by the FBI to join a special program called the Naturals, she is skeptical at first. The Naturals is a group of teenagers with exceptional talents in areas such as profiling, statistics, and deception detection. When Cassie joins the Naturals, she finds herself immersed in a world of danger and intrigue. The Naturals work together to solve cold cases and hunt down serial killers using their unique talents and abilities. Soon, Cassie realizes that she is in too deep. Will the Naturals be able to use their gifts to survive?
Personally, I thought this book was pretty good. Jennifer Lynn Barnes weaves together and suspenseful thriller, which kept me on the edge of my seat as I tried to unravel the mysteries alongside the Naturals. This book is simplistic and has an amazing plot. I would recommend this book for middle schoolers due to its simplicity.
