“The Other Boy,” following a young boy named Shane, is a great book that I highly recommend to any and all. This book delves into a middle school perspective of the mental, social, and situational struggles of topics such as the results of a divorce, the spectrum of the LGBTQIA+ community, and the now seen effects of bullying. Each of these topics are shown beautifully with multiple three-dimensional characters. Every one of the characters being realistic, with references to popular media or common behaviorisms. Written amazingly, while reading you can feel empathy for the characters, joy towards many events, and frustration following other situations. I really do feel this book puts many voices light in an extremely well-written way. The book shines towards topics of diversity and acceptance in such a way that may not be seen often. With a spark of comedy, too!
