This is a gallery of ramen noodle recipes and photos shared by teens participating in our take-home Dress Up Your Ramen activity. They created new ramen dishes using ingredients from their own kitchens in addition to the package of ramen noodles (and suggestions) provided by the library. Try out some of their ideas to give your ramen noodles a new life!
Ramen Recipes:
Ramen Carbonara
Ingredients: 1 pkg ramen noodles, 1 egg, 2 slices of bacon (crumbled, or bacon bits), 1/2 cup parmesan cheese
Directions: Boil your noodles until done. Drain and set aside. Cook bacon in the same pot used to make the noodles, crumble it and set aside. Beat egg and mix in parmesan cheese. Return pot to stove, add noodles to the bacon and toss until warm. Add egg-parm mixture and toss until cooked through (2-3 minutes). Add pepper to taste.
Ramen & Cheese
Ingredients: 1 pkg ramen noodles, 1-2 slices of American cheese
Directions: Cook ramen according to instructions on the package. Remove it from the heat. Add 1-2 slices of American cheese and cover the pot with a lid for 1-2 minutes (until cheese is melted). Stir to combine.
Poached Egg Ramen
Ingredients: 1 pkg ramen noodles, 1 egg
Directions: Cook ramen according to instructions on the package. Remove it from the heat. Crack a raw egg into the noodles. Do not stir! Cover pot with lid for 1-2 minutes (until egg is poached). Enjoy!
Faux Pho Ramen
Ingredients: 1 pkg ramen noodles, 2 T lime juice, 1 T sugar, 2 t soy sauce, pinch of pepper flakes, fresh cilantro, fresh jalapeño pepper, lunch meat
Directions: Cook ramen according to instructions on package, BUT only use 1/2 the flavor packet. Add lime juice, sugar, and soy sauce + a generous pinch of pepper flakes. Before serving, add fresh cilantro, jalapenos, and lunch meat (all optional).
Cream of Mushroom Ramen
Ingredients: 1 pkg ramen noodles, 1/4 cup condensed cream of mushroom soup (or other condensed cream soup of your choice), black pepper (to taste), 1-2 T lemon juice
Directions: Cook ramen according to instructions on the package, then drain half of the liquid. Add condensed cream soup of your choice and stir to combine. Season with lemon juice and black pepper to taste (optional).
Flamin’ Ramen
Ingredients: 1 pkg ramen noodles, 1 oz. bag of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos (or other Flamin’ Hot chips), hot sauce, cheese
Directions: Cook ramen according to instructions on the package, reserving 1/4 cup of the cooking water. Drain the rest of the water. Return noodles and reserved water to pot. Crush chips and add them to the noodles. Stir to combine. Optional: Season with hot sauce and add cheese.
Ramen Pad Thai
Ingredients: 1 pkg ramen noodles, 2 T peanut butter, 1 t soy sauce, 1 T sriracha (or more, to taste), fresh cilantro, fresh jalapeño pepper, crushed peanuts
Directions: Cook ramen noodles, drain, and rinse in cold water. Mix together peanut butter, soy sauce, and sriracha + half the flavor packet. Add just enough water to make it creamy. Toss noodles in the sauce. Add fresh cilantro, jalapeño pepper, and crushed peanuts as toppings (optional). [Note: You can also add chopped tofu, or cooked meat of your choice, scrambled egg, and bean sprouts for more pad thai goodness.]
