Call to Order: A regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Huntley Area Public Library District was held in Program Room 3 at the Huntley Area Public Library District, 11000 Ruth Road, Huntley, IL 60142 on October 16, 2024. President Budzynski called the meeting to order at 5:36 p.m.
Attendance:
Trustees Present: Chris Budzynski, Sandy Domagalski, Stephanie Duncan, Shannon McKibben, Leslie Threadgill-Smith, and Stephanie Weil
Trustees Absent: Katie Kunde
Library Staff Present: Frank Novak, Library Director; Pamela Kampwerth, Head of Programming & Outreach Services; Kevin Stringer, Head of IT.
Visitors Present: Alina Zaidi, Marge Smith, Natalia Tokarska, Lohith Seera.
Pledge of Allegiance: President Budzynski led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Public Comments: There were no public comments.
Stringer left the meeting.
Secretary’s Report: Threadgill-Smith motioned, McKibben seconded that the Board approve the minutes of the Budget and Appropriations Ordinance Hearing held, September 18, 2024. All Ayes. No Nays. Motion carried.
Duncan motioned, Threadgill-Smith seconded that the Board approve the minutes of the Regular Meeting held on September 18, 2024, as presented. All Ayes. No Nays. Motion carried.
Financial Reports and Checks: McKibben motioned, Duncan seconded that the Board approve the checks and financial report for September 2024 as presented. Roll call votes were: Budzynski-Aye; Duncan-Aye; McKibben-Aye; Threadgill-Smith-Aye; Weil-Aye. All Ayes. No Nays. Motion carried.
Monthly Income/Expense Report: No discussion.
Library Director’s Report: Presented by Novak. Novak reminded the board of days and hours for petition filing are November 12 – 18, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Candidates can file with any employee as the training for staff has been completed. A newsletter redesign was discussed. The library would like to make the newsletter more like a magazine with glossy paper. The newsletter is the primary source of library information for most of our patrons. Next month Novak will address the Special Reserve Fund discussing what it is, how it works, and how the money can be used. The Electric Vehicle charging station was discussed. The station is installed, and the library is waiting for an inspection. Training in how to set up and use the application associated with the charger will be scheduled after the inspection is completed. The outdoor Story Time Area Project permit is being reviewed by the Village of Huntley.
Committee Reports:
Policy: There was no report.
Finance: There was no report.
Facilities: There was no report.
Friends’ Liaison: Presented by Kampwerth. Friends received an individual donation of $1,500 last week. Corner Books brought in over $1,200 last month. The organization is preparing for the Holiday Basket Fundraiser. Library Board of Trustee members were invited to the Friends Open House on Friday, October 18 at 11:00 a.m. in Program Rooms 2 & 3.
New Business: There was no New Business.
Old Business: There was no Old Business.
Upcoming Dates: The next Regular Monthly Board Meeting of the Board of Trustees will be Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at 5:30 p.m.
Board Discussion: The 2024 Library Tax Levy Draft was discussed. There is 22 million dollars in new growth in Kane and McHenry counties this year. Novak will prepare four different levy calculations for the Board to review next month. Novak asked the Board about hosting a Board-Staff Holiday/Post-Holiday party. The Board asked Novak to come back with a dollar amount if the amount exceeds $3,000.
