Percy Jackson and Annabeth find out the borders of Camp Half-Blood are no longer safe and that someone has poisoned Thalia’s tree. Also, Grover is in trouble and needs help. Percy, Annabeth, Clarisse, and Percy’s new brother, Tyson, must try to save Grover and capture the Fleece in order to save Camp Half-Blood. I liked this whole book very much!

There are problems at Camp Half-Blood and Percy and his Cyclopes friend wind up there and want to fix them. They go on a perilous journey to fix Camp Half-Blood.  I liked how this story incorporated Greek myths. I liked the action and the unexpected twists in the plot. I disliked how somehow they managed to work things out.

Percy needs to get the Golden Fleece in order to save Thalia’s tree to protect Camp Half-Blood. He goes on a perilous journey to get it with Tyson and Annabeth. They succeed, but Kronos is getting stronger.  I liked this book because it was full of action from the beginning and it had a lot of surprises. Some parts were predictable and some parts were unpredictable.

In this book Percy Jackson had been getting dream messages from Grover, because he was pretending to be a woman Cyclops so Polyphemus does not eat him, then Percy comes to the camp to realize that Thalia’s tree has been poisoned and he needs to steal the Golden Fleece – to heal the camp – and rescue Grover from Polyphemus.  Instead the quest is given to Clarisse.  Percy goes anyway and finds out that Luke poisoned Thalia’s tree and is planning to steal the Fleece from Percy to bring Kronos – the Titan lord – back.  Percy gets Grover and the Fleece, but insists that Clarisse brings the Fleece to the camp since it was her quest.  The Fleece works too well and brings Thalia to life again.  I loved the book because it had action, mythology, mystery, and brotherly love.  Also, because the characters always win a battle in the story – in the most uncommon ways to do so.

Percy and Anabeth have to save Grover from a giant Cyclops trying to kill Grover. They come across some birds that make music that makes you want to come and get killed. They also face a witch who turns boys into guinea pigs. Will they ever save Grover?

Percy has dreams about his friend being in trouble. Camp Half-Blood’s borders start to break. Percy and his friends go on a quest to find Grover and the Golden Fleece. They get it back to camp, but they find Luke, too. Thalia comes back alive, too.  (reviews the graphic novel edition)

Thirteen-year-old Percy Jackson must travel to Polyphemus’ (the Cyclops) cave in the Sea of Monsters to save his best friend, Grover, and find the Golden Fleece. The magical border that surrounds and protects Camp Half-Blood is weakening because someone poisoned Thalia’s tree. The Golden Fleece is the only thing that can save it. I loved this book because there was always action going on and the story took a lot of surprising twists.

The second book of the Percy Jackson series follows main protagonist Percy Jackson. The book starts with Percy having a terrible nightmare about Grover, who is terrified of a dark shadowy figure in the mist. The monster’s growl cut through the lightning as it chased him through the night. There was an alleyway and Grover dashed through it. It was a dead end. Percy thought Grover was in trouble. The book then progresses into Thalia’s tree becoming poisoned, though the certain individual who poisoned it is unknown. This leads to magical borders around Camp Half-Blood failing. In order to save the camp, Percy and his friends have to find the magical item they need. Their challenge is to go into the Sea of Monsters to find the item.

In this book I enjoyed the fast-paced, action-packed scenes. After reading this book, I felt like I knew Percy and Annabeth better. Rick Riordan certainly knows how to draw out the characters in this book. I felt that the action never seems to slow down which allows the reader to be on the edge of their seat.

For upper elementary kids and middle school teens.
