This book is absolutely amazing! Hazel Kaplansky loves detective work. But in a small town in Vermont, there isn’t usually a lot. Until Mr. Jones moves in. Set in the 1950s, this book revolves around the Cold War. When there is an investigation being conducted at a nearby factory, Hazel’s mind goes racing. Meanwhile, at school, this new boy moves in. Hazel fears that he is smarter than her. But she ends up making friends with him, which leads to an exciting conclusion of the book. I enjoyed this book because friendship, devotion, and loyalty are woven throughout it. Hazel eventually realizes jumping to conclusions isn’t good. And she learns that sticking up for what is right is more important than being popular. A strong sense of justice runs throughout this book. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys suspense or historical fiction.
