* * * * Stars (Great!)
A group of bunnies is picnicking by a lake when they hear the most terrible plop. They flee from the noise and are joined by every other animal they encounter as they try to get as far away from the plop as possible. When the animals nearly trample a bear, however, he grabs the tiniest bunny – the one who can’t quite keep up with all the rest – and demands to be shown where the terrible plop is to be found. Scared of the plop, but more scared of the bear (immediate danger!), the bunny leads him back to the lake, where – once again – a terrible plop is heard. The bear takes off running, but the bunny – having seen the source of the noise – is content to sit under the tree and finish off the chocolate cake! Great rhyme scheme in this funny story, and lots of suspense. This would make a great read-aloud and should elicit appreciative, enthusiastic giggles.
