This book is about 11 year old Martine, whose parents are killed on her birthday night in a terrible fire. Then Martine has to move to Africa to Sawubona and meets the white giraffe, and together they embark into adventure. The main character is Martine. Other characters are Tendai, Gwyn Tomas, five star gang, the white giraffe, and Ben. I didn’t like this book because certain words I didn’t understand and couldn’t pronounce.

When Martine loses everything one night in a fire, including her parents, she is moved to Africa to live with her grandmother. She is sad and heartbroken until she sees the mythical white giraffe. Together they find strength, courage, and friendship. Poachers steal the giraffe and Martine discovers her healing powers as she puts her life in danger to save the giraffe. After his rescue, they become even closer and people discover he is real and not a myth.
